Most phones, tablets and laptops from the last few years support eSIM — but it’s worth confirming before you buy so there are no surprises. Here’s how to check in seconds.
Two things your device needs
- eSIM support — the hardware has to include an embedded SIM.
- Carrier unlocked — your phone must be free to use other networks. If it came on a contract, your carrier can usually unlock it, often for free once the contract is up.
The quickest check
Look for an “Add eSIM” or “Add mobile plan” option in your phone’s mobile-data settings. If it’s there, your device supports eSIM. On many iPhones you can also dial *#06# and look for an EID number — if you see one, you have an eSIM.
Devices that generally support eSIM
- iPhone — iPhone XS, XR and every model since.
- Samsung Galaxy — recent S, Note, Z Flip and Z Fold models.
- Google Pixel — Pixel 3 and later (a few carrier variants aside).
- Others — many recent Motorola, Oppo, Huawei, Sony and Xiaomi models, plus cellular iPads and several modern laptops.
