eSIM Setup

Setting up your Travinger eSIM takes about five minutes, and you can do the whole thing before you leave home. This guide walks you through every step — from the QR code in your inbox to your first bars of signal abroad — plus how to switch between SIMs, what to do if something looks off, and a few habits that make travelling with an eSIM effortless.

Before you start, you'll need

  • A compatible, carrier-unlocked phone or tablet — check your device here.
  • A Wi-Fi connection to install. You install the eSIM at home; it only goes live once you reach your destination.
  • Your Travinger confirmation email, which holds your QR code and manual activation details.
  • About five minutes. That's it.

How to install your eSIM on iPhone

  1. 1

Buy your plan and open the email

Pick your destination and plan at checkout. Within a couple of minutes you'll get an email with your QR code and a manual activation code. Tip: open the email on a computer or second screen so your iPhone can scan the QR.

  2. 2

    Connect to Wi-Fi

Install while you're on Wi-Fi at home — you don't need to be at your destination yet, and you won't use any of your data by installing early.

  3. 3

    Add the eSIM in Settings

Go to Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Service) and tap Add eSIMUse QR Code. On older iOS it may read Add Cellular Plan.

  4. 4

    Scan the QR code

Point the camera at the QR in your email. Can't scan it? Tap Enter Details Manually and copy the SM-DP+ address and activation code from the email.

  5. 5

    Label it "Travinger"

When iOS asks, name the plan Travinger so it's easy to recognise. Leave your personal line as your Default for calls and iMessage.

  6. 6

    Choose Travinger for data

Go to Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data and select Travinger. Turn off "Allow Cellular Data Switching" so your phone won't quietly fall back to your home SIM.

  7. 7

Turn on Data Roaming for Travinger

Open Settings → Cellular → Travinger and switch Data Roaming on. This is expected for any travel eSIM — you're roaming on Travinger's network, not your carrier's, so it won't trigger home-carrier fees.

Turning it on when you land

  1. 1

    Arrive and let it connect

Your plan goes live when the eSIM first connects to a local network at your destination. Give it a minute or two after you land to find a signal.

  2. 2

    Check three settings

Travinger is your selected data line, its Data Roaming is on, and — on Android — it's set as Mobile data. If all three are set, you're online.

  3. 3

    Nudge it if needed

No signal after a few minutes? Toggle Airplane mode on and off, or restart your phone. That prompts it to re-scan for local networks.

Using two SIMs at once — keep your number, add Travinger data

  • Your phone runs both SIMs together (Dual SIM), so your usual number stays active for calls and texts.
  • Use Travinger for data and your personal SIM for everything else.
  • To avoid your home carrier's roaming charges, turn Data Roaming off on your personal SIM and leave it on only for Travinger.
  • Back home? Just switch your data line back to your personal SIM. Leave the Travinger eSIM installed — you can reuse it on your next trip to the same region, or top up from your account to add more data.

Troubleshooting

Common issues and quick fixes

  • "No Service" after you arrive: give it a few minutes to register, toggle Airplane mode on and off, then restart. Make sure you're inside the plan's coverage area.
  • Connected but no internet: confirm Travinger is your data line and its Data Roaming is on. On some Android phones, add the APN if one was provided.
  • "Unable to add" or "Invalid QR code": each QR installs once. If you've already added it, don't scan again — just enable it in settings. If it never installed, use manual entry instead.
  • The QR won't scan: enter the details by hand using the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your email.
  • Slow or dropping signal: in settings, switch the network mode (5G/LTE) or select a network manually, and move to an area with better coverage.
  • You deleted the eSIM: an eSIM can't be re-downloaded once removed — that's why we say keep it. Contact us and we'll help sort it out.

Before you fly

  • Confirm your phone is compatible and unlockedcheck here.
  • Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi. Don't leave it for the airport queue.
  • Don't delete the profile after installing — it can't be re-downloaded.
  • Note your plan's data amount and validity so you know what you're working with.

While you travel

  • Keep Data Roaming off on your personal SIM to avoid surprise charges.
  • Use Wi-Fi where you can to stretch your data further.
  • Check your data balance in your phone's cellular settings.
  • Running low? Top up from your account to add more data, or buy another plan anytime — it installs exactly the same way.
